Police pursue suspected burglar into Roseville

On 05/29/2011, at approximately 4:32 PM, the Rocklin Police Department received a report that a burglary had just occurred at the AMPM located at 6550 Fairway Drive.  The on-duty clerk at the AMPM reported that a white male in his mid-twenties went into the store and stole an undisclosed number of lottery tickets.  The male fled in a silver Honda Civic.

A Rocklin Police Officer was patrolling the area and located a vehicle that matched the suspect’s vehicle description.  When the officer ran the license plate, the plate returned as lost or stolen.  Before the officer could initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled in the vehicle—leading the officer on vehicle pursuit that began on Sunset Boulevard.  The pursuit lasted approximately three minutes over the course of approximately three miles until the officer lost sight of the suspect vehicle in the area of East Roseville Parkway and Medical Plaza Drive.  Several citizens flagged the officer down and reported that the suspect’s vehicle was last seen driving into the Sutter Roseville Medical Center parking lot.

Rocklin officers and Roseville officers converged on the scene to look for the suspect.  At approximately 4:52 PM, residents in the Stone Canyon Drive area reported that a subject was hopping fences in the neighborhood.  Officers responded to the area.

An off-duty deputy sheriff, who had apparently been monitoring the call, located the suspect and confronted him.  The off-duty deputy sheriff shot the suspect.  The suspect was transported to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.  The suspect’s injuries were considered life-threatening, but he is expected to survive.  The suspect’s name is not being released at this time due to his condition.  The suspect will be charged with burglary—a felony, reckless evading—a felony, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
