Did you know that pet waste carries bacteria, and if left on the ground, can make people sick?

Besides being very unpleasant to step in, it can also wash into storm drains, polluting our community and waterways. Some pathogens found in pet waste can find their way into creeks and wetlands, where they can make wildlife and humans sick. Rocklin is located in both the Dry Creek and Pleasant Grove watersheds, which are salmon and trout habitats.
The following are ways pet owners can help prevent pollution:
  • Pick up after your pet every time. Most pet supply stores carry products that make picking up easy.
  • Dispose of pet waste in the garbage or, better yet, flush it down the toilet. Never wash it into the gutter or down a storm drain.
  • Carry extra bags in your car so you are prepared when traveling with your pet.
  • Get involved in a local pet group and remind other owners to pick up after their pets.
