Reserve Officers

The Rocklin Police Department’s Reserve Unit was formed nearly thirty years ago, and offers the community a broad spectrum of services. The primary purpose of the Reserve Program is to supplement the patrol force, particularly during busy times such as weekends and holidays. Reserve Officers are critical to the police department’s operations during major incidents such as public demonstrations or natural disasters. Reserve Officers also serve a vital role in various community events such as the Jubilee, Hot Chili-Cool Cars, Zack’s Walk, and numerous school-related events throughout the year.
Additionally, Reserve Officers are involved in Bicycle Patrol, SWAT, Range Master, and Animal Control duties. The Reserve Unit is comprised of six Reserve Officers, who work a minimum of 20 hours per month to maintain their standing.
Criteria and Hiring Process
There are three levels of Reserve Officers in the State of California with varying standards for selection and training. The Rocklin Police Department employs “Level I” and “Level II” Reserve Officers. A “Level I” Reserve Officer must graduate from a POST Certified Basic Police Academy (full time or modular format), and successfully complete the department’s Field Training Program. “Level I” Reserve Officers may work solo and can be called upon to perform the same duties as a regular full-time officer. A “Level II” Reserve Officer must complete Academy Modules II and III, and then complete a modified Field Training Program. “Level II” Reserve Officers work under the immediate supervision of a regular officer performing similar duties. Academy Module classes are available at Sierra College. Are you up for a challenging opportunity for community service? Have you ever considered a position as a Police Officer but did not want to give up your current career? If so, then the Rocklin Police Department’s Reserve Unit is looking for you! The Rocklin Police Department accepts applications of interest on a continual basis, and schedules periodic tests for these positions.
