Firefighters do all types of training. They train on basic firefighter skills such as ladders and fire hoses, EMS skills, and even some specialized skills such as rescue and hazardous materials.

 

 

What types of certifications do firefighters get?
Firefighters are trained to a California State standard Firefighter 1 or Firefighter 2. The training for these certificates can come either from an academy or the local fire department. There are higher levels of certifications for Captains and Chiefs. All of these certifications are achieved through experience and classes at a local college.

In addition to these basic certifications, there are also many specialized certifications and classes on subjects ranging from basic firefighter skills to hazardous materials to specialized rescue.
